E3: Lake Maggiore 17th April

CANNOBIO

Cannobio is the first Italian town we entered after Switzerland and is on the West shore of Lake Maggiore.  The main old town is 15th century and is reached from the lovely waterside promenade through winding cobbled streets.  Behind this is a wooded valley, Val Cannobina, leading up to the chapel of Sant’ Anna sited next to an old Roman bridge which crosses the rocky gorge.

We were stood on this bridge admiring the padlocks when along came a friendly Italian who insisted on taking out photo for us…...

The padlocks are secured to the wire and appear to declare undying love by who ever left them there…..

I found this funny, the man taking the photo accidentally took this…hehe

VERBANIA

Verbania is the largest town on the West side of the lake created in the 1930’s as a result of Italian Fascism which dictated that the smaller villages be conglomerated into one large town.  The oldest part is Pallanza which boasts some of the nicest lakeside views in the area.

Italian Ice Cream !  This could be the first of many (let’s be honest, it WILL be!)

Oooh, I’m in love with a nice cool and tasty Italian! (don’t tell Kate)
