Wieskirche is one of Bavaria’s best known Baroque churches and a Unesco World Heritage site. In 1730 a farmer in Steingaden witnessed the miracle of his Christ statue shedding tears and this quickly became a pilgrimage site. The church was commissioned and built by the local abbot in response to this miracle and today the Christ statue is situated in the church behind the main altar….
towards the main alter….
where the Christ statue takes centre place….
The almost circular structure of the church has eight snow white pillars topped with gold capital stones and swirling decorations….
This stuccoed wonder is the work of the legendary artist brothers Dominikus and Johann Baptist Zimmermann….
The church is on the edge of the tiny village of Wies….
surrounded by the lush green Bavarian pasture land….
Such an large ornate Baroque church for a small village Hugs and love Mumski xxxxxxxx
